In recent years many people have fallen prey to alcohol addiction, but fortunately the majority of them have been able to recover by going through alcohol treatment programs. At the same time there have been cases of Alcoholism Relapse due to recovered alcoholics slipping back into addiction. There are various reasons behind relapse which can be varied from social-psychological conflicts, lack of commitment, to improper treatment in rehab centers.

Some reasons for relapse are:

  • Alcohol is readily available at almost every corner of the street. Easy accessibility along with seeing others drink can remind recovered alcoholics of their past habits. This can result in feeling the urges to drink which can push them towards a relapse.
  • Socializing with a crowd that indulges in alcohol abuse or addiction is sure to push ex-alcoholics towards the world of addiction. This is because recovered alcoholics often lack the confidence to say no when they are offered a drink.
  • After the completion of the alcohol addiction treatment, people go back to their normal lives. With the passage of time they might start feeling the stress and pressures of their private and work life. In case recovered alcoholics are mentally and physically not strong to deal with such situations, they may go back to drinking alcohol in order to relax and find pleasure thereby.
  • One of the important reasons for Alcoholism Relapse can be the celebrations after treatment which is held to rejoice the homecoming of the recovering alcoholics. When alcoholics are fresh out of rehab centers they can be mentally weak. However if their near and dear ones fail to understand this fact and start celebrating with alcoholic beverages there is high possibility of recovered alcoholics going back into addiction.
  • Alcoholism can cause the addicted individual to become detached from society becomes it can be very hard for them to interact with people. This is the reason people face mental pressure when they are reintegrating with society. They consider themselves failures that are weak and worthless, and this negative self-image can lead to them having troubled relationships with society. The stress and pressure of such difficult relationships can also push recovered alcoholics to take up drinking again.

In case recovered Alcoholics Relapse it does not signify the end of the road for them. They should enroll in an effective alcohol treatment program where they will be provided with counseling, supportive therapy and a chance to talk with a counselor with whom they can share their problems. This will help relapsed alcoholics to motivate and recommit themselves to stop consuming alcohol.

Alcoholics after successful completion of treatment may relapse, but hope is still there for them as they can go through treatment which will help them to overcome their alcohol addiction habit and live better and healthy lives.
