There are some people that turn to alcohol when trying to deal with stress or complications. This individual is not dealing with reality and using alcohol is not the answer. Abusing alcohol when dealing with problems means a person is not able to realize how bad things have become, nor can the individual make serious and positive decisions because of being mentally impaired. Alcohol is very much like other drugs in that once a person is addicted nothing else but drinking is important to the individual. A person suffering from alcoholism will encounter the same cravings, tolerance and dependency as a drug addict will.

Alcoholism Relapse can cause serious and devastating problems for the individual, their family, and others who care about them. People who suffer from chronic alcohol abuse and have been drinking for a long time can experience serious health complications, social difficulties and lose their family as well as everything important in life. Because few people can comprehend the full power and capacity that alcohol has for causing destruction, most are unable to process or realize how serious the problem is, and even less people know where to turn for help.

A person is affected mentally emotionally and physically; the disease can interfere with an individual's familial or job related responsibilities. Chronic alcohol abuse has a profound effect on the central nervous system and reacts as a depressant, causing a person to feel less tense, anxious and self-conscious. Even if an individual only consumes a few drinks it can cause a serious change in behavior, motor skills, and a person is unable to think rationally.

Alcoholism causes a lack of appetite. Because of this a person might lose a noticeable amount of weight and could suffer from malnutrition because of not eating right. A person suffering from alcoholism will feel so torn and guilty about the problem that the individual may not give care about their physical appearance and avoid others in order to drink. When a person’s body is not provided with a certain amount of alcohol, an alcoholic can encounter alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Symptoms of withdrawal can include psychosis, hypertension, paranoia, hallucinations, tremors, seizures and in the worst can scenario death can result from severe alcoholism.

When a person wants to stop the discomfort of withdrawals, Alcoholics Relapse will happen and the individual will continue to drink. There are people that need to stop drinking and will engage in periods of abstinence, but few will be able to stop completely without treatment for alcoholism. Because many alcoholics are not able to admit or see that alcoholism is serious or out of control, through getting treatment the individual is allowed to see there are others in the same situation.

Alcoholism is a disease which responds well from a compassionate and empathetic viewpoint.  Patients are able to feel more secure about receiving help and will respond to kindness and concern. The form of treatment a person is given for alcoholism is going to have a direct outcome on how they recover from the disease. Statistical information shows that people who receive unconditional support and encouragement from friends and families have a much better opportunity of achieving long term sobriety.
